Preparing Julie Clarke Candle Vessels for re-use

There are a few ways your customers can clean out their vessels – I will tell you what I do with the Julie Clarke Candle vessels.  Remember all our vessels are porcelain.

Sometimes if I have a few vessels I want to clean out together this is what I do-

  1. Boil enough water in a saucepan so vessels are just sitting in the water (water should come less than halfway up the vessel)
  2. Let water simmer and pop vessels in for a minute or two depending on how much wax left.
  3. This will loosen up the wax and it should pop out and you can clean any residue with a cloth.

Alternatively some people do the following;

  1. Pour hot water from the kettle into the vessel
  2. Leave vessel for a few minutes and residue wax should rise to the surface in disc form and you just pop it out.
  3. Again, clean out residue wax with cloth.
  4. Make sure you do not pour any residue wax down the sink as this will clog up your system and you might have to call a plumber!

Sustainable Gifts

We are all about sustainability at Julie Clarke Candles.  With this mission in mind we have chosen beautiful porcelain vessels for all our products that will last a lifetime.    This compliments our vegan registered candles and diffusers.

Julie Clarke Candles has a number of collections – Blue Peacock Storage Jar & Diffusers, Botanic, Blue Floral Lantern and finally  the Classic White Porcelain.   All of the vessels in these collections can be re-used.

The Storage Jar can be used for spices in the kitchen, the diffuser vessel becomes a lovely bud vase or you can use one of our fragrance refills.

The Botanic vessels make really nice herbal teacups or plant up for your kitchen herb garden.

The Floral Lantern vessel becomes a really nice lantern – just pop a tealight in it after the candle is finished and you have a lantern forever.

The Classic White collection also makes a nice lantern after the life of the candle.

The translucency of the porcelain in both the Floral Lantern and Classic White collection enhances the glow coming from the tealight.

All of our gift boxes can be re-used as well for pencil holders, jewellery and other trinkets.  Great boxes to brighten up your office desk with instead of the usual pen holders.

Vegan Approved Products

Julie Clarke Candles

We are proud that all our products are registered with the Vegan Society – Internationally recognised Vegan trademark.

History of the Vegan Society

The Vegan Society was founded in the UK in 1944 by Donald Watson and several others who had a vision for a world seeking –

“ to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment.”(definition of vegan www.vegansociety.com)

Vegan Trademark

Since 1990 the Society has been helping businesses worldwide to demonstrate their products meet this definition with their Vegan Trademark.  This trademark is used on labels all over the world as the “authentic standard for products free from animal ingredients and animal testing “.    Companies make an application to the Vegan Society to have their products registered with the society – it is only when products are approved that they can display the official Vegan Trademark of a Sunflower.

International Recognition

The Vegan Trademark is registered in countries worldwide and used on over 45,000 products.  It is the international standard for genuine Vegan products.  When customers see the Sunflower Symbol on the Vegan trademark, they know they can trust the product.

Applying for the Vegan Trademark

To apply for the Vegan Trademark, you simply contact the society and they will send you out the application form.  It does take time and effort to get approval, but it is well worth it.

We were using all vegan ingredients in our products for a long time before we went through the registration process with the Vegan Society.  Now we can show our customers that we are registered with the Vegan Trademark and it gives our products credibility.

Five Candle Care Tips for Your Customers

Making sure your customers are knowledgeable on how to care for their candle will help them to enjoy their new purchase and come back for more.   It also prevents them from making mistakes like causing their candle to tunnel because they have not burned it for long enough on the first burn.

Below are 5 of our best tips for candle care you can pass on to your customers;

  1.  When you light your candle for the first time – make sure you let It burn until the wax pool melts the whole surface of your candle.  This may take 2 to 4 hours depending on the size of your candle.
  2.  If you blow out your candle before the wax melts to the outer edge of vessel you will cause your candle to tunnel or burn a hole down the centre leaving a lot of wax around the edges.  This makes the wick difficult to light as it tunnels down.
  3.  It is the melted wax pool on the surface of the candle that gives the best scent throw.
  4. Always trim your wick to 5 mm once the wax pool hardens and before lighting again.
  5. Trim your wick at the curl – all wicks curl slight to one side.  If you do not trim at the curl the wick will burn the wax more to one side of the candle.  This causes an uneven burn.
