How to clean out Julie Clarke Candle Vessels

Below are a few of our tips for cleaning out our candle vessels.

  • Boil enough water in a saucepan so vessels are just sitting in the water (water should come less than halfway up the vessel)
  • Let water simmer and pop vessels in for a minute or two depending on how much wax left.
  • After a minute or two the wax will loosen up and  should pop out and you can clean any residue with a cloth.
  • Then  dry off your vessel and decide what you want to use it for.  I use my vessels for things like  storage jars or lanterns (pop a tealight in) .

Sustainable Gifts

Sustainability is at the heart of  Julie Clarke Candles.  We have chosen beautiful ceramic vessels for our products that will last a lifetime.    This compliments our candles and diffusers  – all registered with the vegan trademark and part of the Leaping Bunny cruelty free (not tested on animals) program.

Julie Clarke Candles has a number of collections –  Peacock Storage Jar & Diffusers, Botanic and Desert Winds .   All of the vessels in these collections can be re-used.

The Storage Jar can be used for spices in the kitchen.  The diffuser vessel becomes a lovely bud vase or you can use one of our fragrance refills.

The Botanic vessels make really nice herbal teacups or plant up for your kitchen herb garden.

The  vessels in the Desert Winds collection can be reused for many things.   For example, storage jars for those special sweets or biscuits.

All of our gift boxes can be re-used as well for pencil holders, jewelry and other trinkets.  Great boxes to brighten up your office desk with instead of the usual pen holders.

Vegan Approved Products

Julie Clarke Candles

We are proud that all our products are registered with the Vegan Society – Internationally recognised Vegan trademark.

History of the Vegan Society

The Vegan Society was founded in the UK in 1944 by Donald Watson and several others who had a vision for a world seeking –

“ to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment.”(definition of vegan www.vegansociety.com)

Vegan Trademark

Since 1990 the Society has been helping businesses worldwide to demonstrate their products meet this definition with their Vegan Trademark.  This trademark is used on labels all over the world as the “authentic standard for products free from animal ingredients and animal testing “.    Companies make an application to the Vegan Society to have their products registered with the society – it is only when products are approved that they can display the official Vegan Trademark of a Sunflower.

International Recognition

The Vegan Trademark is registered in countries worldwide and used on over 45,000 products.  It is the international standard for genuine Vegan products.  When customers see the Sunflower Symbol on the Vegan trademark, they know they can trust the product.

Applying for the Vegan Trademark

To apply for the Vegan Trademark, you simply contact the society and they will send you out the application form.  It does take time and effort to get approval, but it is well worth it.

We were using all vegan ingredients in our products for a long time before we went through the registration process with the Vegan Society.  Now we can show our customers that we are registered with the Vegan Trademark and it gives our products credibility.

Candle Care Tips

Taking care of your candle will really enhance your candle experience.

Here are our best tips for candle care;

  • When you light your candle for the first time – make sure you let It burn until the wax pool melts the whole surface of your candle.  This may take 2 to 4 hours depending on the size of your candle.
  • If you blow out your candle before the wax melts to the outer edge of vessel you will cause your candle to tunnel or burn a hole down the centre leaving a lot of wax around the edges.  This makes the wick difficult to light as it tunnels down.
  • It is the melted wax pool on the surface of the candle that gives the best scent throw.
  • Always trim your wick to 5 mm once the wax pool hardens and before lighting again.  Trimming wick helps with even burn and also to prevent tunnelling.
  • Trim your wick at the curl – all wicks curl slight to one side.  If you do not trim at the curl the wick will burn the wax more to one side of the candle.  This causes an uneven burn.
